SCI Treatment

Over 1400 spinal cord injury (SCI) patients at 14 different hospitals have been treated using Beike's stem cells. Stem Cells offer an alternative treatment for spinal cord injury patients who have hit a plateau with their current rehabilitation and seek further improvement, are looking for more sensation, or seeking improvements in their bodily functions like sweating or bladder or bowel control.

SpinalCordinjurySciTreatment.com's purpose is to give you information about stem cell therapy as a treatment option for spinal cord injury patients. We hope that the information on this site, as well as the experience summaries from past patients, can help you to make an informed choice on the next step on your path to recovery.

    Treatment Outlook

    stem-cell-therapy-effectiveness-sci

Beike’s stem cell technologies have been used to treat over 1400 spinal cord injury patients to date. Many of these patients report that the treatment, alongside rehabilitation therapy, has helped them to improve to a point where their quality of life has improved substantially. At the same time, like any other medical procedure, there are patients who have received negligible or no improvement from the treatment.

    Common Results

Based on general feedback from patients who have received stem cell transplants, if you are a patient with a standard spinal injury, these some fairly common results from treatment:

    During the treatment:

    • They notice that their level of sensation has improved
    • Bladder control has improved and they can now identify the need to urinate a few seconds beforehand, whereas previously there was no warning
    • They can move and control their wrists more than before the treatment

Six months later after intensive rehab:

    • They report that they now have about 20 seconds warning before urinating
    • They can now move their wrists in many directions and this movement actually helps them with some daily activities

If this type of improvement seems like something that is appealing, then you should seriously consider contacting us about treatment. If you are looking for miraculous improvements or are hoping to get up and start walking after a few injections, then please realize that this treatment is not for you, as it often results in mild and more subtle improvements. There have been some cases with extremely positive results but they are very few and far between. If you look at the patient experiences on this site you can see what some of the better outcomes have been.

    General Trends

From general observation of the treatment’s results, patients who are close to ambulatory – spinal cord injury patients who are able to get around on crutches or can move their legs fairly well seem to most often come out with results they are quite satisfied with. The next group of patients that are generally most happy are those with higher level injuries like C5, C6 as their upper body already has movement but they are appreciative of improvement in their upper body abilities – since this happens fairly often.

If everything above your waist is working well but you have no movement or no feeling below the injury site, it is quite hard to make satisfactory progress. In these cases, when patients are determined to try the treatment, they are usually recommended to have stem cells directly injected into the injury site (rather than injections into the spinal cord fluid). Generally, patients that require a ventilator to breathe, cannot be approved for treatment.

Based on follow-up evaluations, 58% of SCI patients who received Beike stem cells state that they notice improvements. However, the improvements arrive at different times post-treatment on an individual-basis. On average, 22% start to notice improvements right away, 39% see improvement 6 months after treatment, and then at 12 months 48% are reporting improvements to their condition. Nearly all patients stated that after twelve months, further improvements stopped occurring and their conditions stablized (retaining any previous gains in the majority of cases). These observations confirm that stem cells take time to do reach their full therapeutic potential.

While there is little detailed data on rehabilitation after discharge from stem cell treatment, it is believed that those who noticed improvements around the 12 month mark are most often those who had been following a vigorous and regular rehabilitation regimen. This suggests that aggressive physical therapy after stem cell transplantation can optimize the stem cells’ therapeutic potential.

    Beike LaboratoryQuality of Life

Many patients who felt that stem cell treatment for their spinal cord injury made a significant impact on their quality of life have decided to come back for repeat treatment. Most of the patients who returned for a second treatment, after responding well to the first treatment, reported that they improved further. Some patients have even returned five times for repeat treatments as each treatment has brought them an improvement in their quality of life.

Like any medicine or treatment available today, the results for spinal cord injury patients do vary – with one out of hundred walking out of their wheelchair. A majority of patients receive slight benefits, which can be optimized by a rigorous rehabilitation program. Still, some receive no therapuetic effects from the treatment. If you are comfortable with this range of possible outcomes, please contact us with more information about your condition and a representative will get back to you with information specific to your case.
